CORRUPTED SOULS
=====================================
Not too long before the start of the War of the Seven, there existed a group of guardians who began to lose faith in the motives of their deity. They would spend their eternal lives watching over mortals, who carelessly squandered their lives by choosing the wrong paths. They felt that if they played a more active role, they could save many souls. However, as they were about to execute this plan, their god summoned them. He warned how interfering with the lives of mortals would only cause more problems, and how they must choose their own way, even if wrong and leading to damnation. However, they ignored his warning and performed good deeds that saved many lives, both literally and spiritually. People began to praise the guardians, building statues to honor them. Eventually, great cathedrals were erected in their names, people worshipped them instead of the proper deity. The guardians became arrogant and selfish, often demanding people worship if they wished to receive their blessings, but people were more than happy to oblige.
  As time passed, things became progressively worse. Villages were laid to waste if tithes were not paid to maintain the majestic cathedrals of the guardians. Kingdoms were overthrown, and clergymen of the guardian faith took over. The guardians began to quarrel and debate amongst each other over who was the most revered and worshipped god. Eventually each of the guardians convinced their people that only through war would the mightiest faith prevail. Many suffered and died while these crusades tore through the lands, wreaking havoc in the name of religion.
  After a decade of disaster, the people abandoned the guardian faith, and returned to their original deity. However, the guardians were outraged at this widespread abandonment, and gave the people an ultimatum that if they did not pay tribute, life as they knew it would cease to exist. Before they could
finish this threat, their creator appeared before them, filled with a rage like no other. He had watched them the whole time, sadly witnessing their descent into corruption. However, once they dared to destroyed what wasn't rightfully theirs, he decided to put an end to their failed plan. The guardians, in his presence, now realized the error of their ways, but it was too late. For punishment, he stripped them of their divine powers and banished them to purgatory. Before they were exiled, they made one final announcement. They claimed that they had gained a mighty power that, only previously, their god had solely possessed. The guardians grinned as their souls were ripped from their body, knowing that the greed of men would have them pursue this unknown power, and that obtaining it would ultimately free
them of their eternal prison, or so they believed.
  Since that fateful day, many documents were written describing the events through the experiences of the authors or what they heard from others. But as time passed, fact turned into fiction, and this merely became a story told by the clergy in order to frighten people into worshipping their god. However, rumors speak that the last sage to accurately depict the event was known to take residence in the Church of Llewellyn.
