Idly Sh'arra looked on as the city guard and various members of 
hired armies assembled. They looked over their armor and arms, 
inspecting them for faults. Her eyes studied as well - trained to 
seek such faults, but not with a weapon of steel like they did - 
with weapons of pure power. She turned to look out upon the field 
that would lay in ruin by day's end, robes swishing softly. Her 
thoughts turned to the men, and her lip rose slightly in contempt. 
Armor was an abomination she would never stoop to - no protection 
and very hot in the summer. Horns sounded and the enemy encampment 
stirred. "Soon," she mused, "soon it would begin." A terrible 
thunder crossed the skies as the invaders launched - sooner than 
expected. Stones and fire rained over the walls. Shrieks could be 
heard from within the compound - men crushed to death, and those not 
so lucky were still alive. Taking a breath, she pulled on the 
threads of the unseen, bending it to her will alone. From a pale and 
empty sky, lightning struck - the smell of singed flesh filled the 
air. The battle has been joined.

Mages specialize in the casting of spells, offensive ones in
particular. Mages have the highest-powered magic of any class.  They
are also very skilled at the use of magical items, though their combat 
skills are the weakest of any class.  A Mage's primary stat is
intelligence.
